Sample program

Rio Carnival 2027 in 4 nights: a sample program for groups

A four-night Carnival program for groups of about 10 people and more, built around one Special Group night at the Sambadrome on February 7, 8 or 9, 2027: airport transfers, Christ the Redeemer, a street bloco with a guide, the parade night with transport there and back, and departure. Travel agencies and organizers can quote it as it is, and we adapt it to each group and send a priced proposal within 24 hours.

Updated:

Dates by parade night

The program is built around one Special Group night and moves with it. The schools parade in the order that LIESA, the league of samba schools, drew on April 16, 2026:

Sambadrome night Schools, in parade order Arrival Departure
Sunday, February 7 União de Maricá, Beija-Flor, Paraíso do Tuiuti, Vila Isabel Thursday, February 4 Monday, February 8
Monday, February 8 Mocidade, Unidos da Tijuca, Salgueiro, Imperatriz Friday, February 5 Tuesday, February 9
Tuesday, February 9 Portela, Viradouro, Grande Rio, Mangueira Saturday, February 6 Wednesday, February 10

Day 1: arrival

A driver meets the group at Galeão (GIG) or Santos Dumont (SDU) with a sign showing the group or agency name, and people on different flights get separate transfers. At the welcome dinner the guide briefs the group on meeting points, what to carry and the plan for the parade night.

Day 2: Christ the Redeemer and Santa Teresa

Coaches cannot drive up to the monument: on the Tijuca National Park road, only the official vans are allowed through. The other way up is the Corcovado train. Both run on booked time slots, and the Rio 4-day program compares them.

Booking early matters more this season. The escalators at the monument are being replaced from August 3, 2026 until about the end of May 2027, and Tijuca National Park has halved the number of visitors allowed at the top at one time. Everyone climbs the last 80 stone steps on foot. Stair-climbing equipment for people with reduced mobility does not run in the rain or on a wet floor, so we ask in advance who may need it.

The afternoon is lunch in Santa Teresa and a walk down toward Lapa, or the Sugarloaf cable car.

Day 3: a street bloco

Blocos are groups with their own band that parade through a neighborhood. The 2027 street carnival starts on January 16, and the approval process for blocos closes on January 15, 2027, so we pick the bloco for your date once the official list is out. For scale, in 2026 Riotur planned 459 bloco parades and estimated about 6 million people, and the Cordão da Bola Preta alone was expected to draw more than 700,000 on Carnival Saturday. A neighborhood bloco is easier for a group. The guide sets a meeting point and a time to leave together, and people carry as little as possible.

Day 4: the Sambadrome night

The Sambadrome (Passarela Professor Darcy Ribeiro), designed by Oscar Niemeyer and opened in 1984, holds more than 70,000 people. LIESA has not published the 2027 start times. In 2026 the Special Group nights started at 21:45, each school had 70 to 80 minutes, and the fourth school entered between 2:30 and 3:00.

The group rests in the morning and eats an early dinner, and the coach leaves with time to spare, because in the unnumbered grandstand sectors (2, 4, 6 and 8) the people who arrive early get the good views. We agree in advance whether everyone stays to the end; if not, the return runs in two waves. In 2026, children under 16 could not enter without a parent or guardian, and the 2027 rules are not out yet.

Day 5: departure

A free morning after the late night, then transfers by flight time.

Where the group sits

Type What it is Official 2027 price per night
Special grandstands (arquibancadas) Sectors 2 to 11, except 9 R$250, half price R$125
Numbered chairs (cadeiras) Individual seats in sector 12 R$250, half price R$125
Frisas Boxes for six at the edge of the avenue, paid by PIX only R$1,835 to R$10,200, by location
Camarotes Private boxes run by organizers, with open bar and food, often with a transfer Set by each organizer

Tickets are sold on Ticketmaster Brasil (ticketmaster.com.br/event/riocarnaval) with limits per CPF, the Brazilian taxpayer number: in the September 2026 phase, two grandstand tickets and one frisa per CPF per parade day. Sector 9 is usually reserved for tourism packages, and the popular sectors 12 and 13 had no sale date on October 9, 2026. As reported on October 7, 2026, Ticketmaster requires all six people on a frisa to collect their wristbands together, with facial biometrics, so each frisa’s six people must be in Rio together before the parade night.

Getting to the Sambadrome

Odd sectors are reached from Central do Brasil metro station, even sectors from Praça Onze. The 2027 traffic plan is not out yet. In 2026, MetrôRio ran 24 hours a day from 05:00 on Friday, February 13 to midnight on Wednesday, February 18, while CET-Rio, the city traffic authority, closed lanes of Avenida Presidente Vargas in stages, banned parking around the Sambadrome and offered no event parking.

For a group, that means either a coach to a drop-off point outside the closures, with the guide walking everyone to the sector gate, or the metro with the guide, depending on the hotel and the sector. The meeting point for the return is fixed before the group goes in. See also group transfers in Rio.

What the proposal includes

  • Transfers and transport for each day, sized to the group.
  • Hotel for four nights, as quoted.
  • A local guide on days 2, 3 and 4, with the language confirmed in the proposal.
  • Christ the Redeemer tickets.
  • Sambadrome seats of the type you choose, with transport there and back.
  • The welcome dinner booking.
  • One contact on our team until the group flies home.

Our fee is already included in the price. A local provider we have vetted delivers each service, and you receive the provider details after you confirm (how we work). Travel agencies get net rates or commission on request: see for travel agencies.

Options

  • Champions Parade, Saturday, February 13: the six best schools parade again. In 2026 it started at 20:00, earlier than the competition nights.
  • Technical rehearsals at the Sambadrome on January 23, 24, 30 and 31, 2027: free, from 19:00 or 20:00, for a group traveling in January.
  • A rehearsal at a samba school hall (quadra). Each school posts dates and ticket prices on its official social media.
  • Parading with a school. Some schools sell places in commercial wings (alas comerciais), others do not, and most places go months before Carnival. We ask the schools about your night.

Booking and terms

Sambadrome tickets have been sold in phases since March 2026, LIESA took camarote requests on May 2, 2026, and what is left depends on each organizer. We check what can still be booked for your night and say so in the proposal.

Our Carnival deposit is non-refundable once you confirm, because seats and tickets are reserved for your group. Terms and payment are set out in the proposal; you pay nothing before you confirm. The program works from about 10 people; groups of 50 and more are handled together with a large local receptive partner, and you keep one contact on our team.

Frequently asked questions

Which Sambadrome night should we choose?

Each Special Group night, February 7, 8 and 9, 2027, has four schools in the order LIESA drew in April 2026. The choice depends on the schools the group wants to see and on the flights, and the program dates move with the night.

Are Sambadrome tickets included?

Seats are quoted in the proposal by type: grandstand, numbered chair, frisa or camarote. After you confirm, we secure them for the group through the official channel or with a camarote organizer.

Can children come to the Sambadrome?

In 2026, children under 16 could not enter without a parent or guardian. The 2027 rules have not been published yet, and we check them for your group's night.

Which language does the guide speak?

We confirm the guide's language in the proposal. Our team works with you in English or Portuguese.

Can we cancel a Carnival booking?

You pay nothing before you confirm. After you confirm, our Carnival deposit is non-refundable, because seats and tickets are reserved for your group. The other terms are set out in the proposal.
